I'm definitely feeling the end-of-winter slump these days. I spend and alarming amount of time thinking about all the summer dresses I've got in storage even though March is the most frustrating month climate-wise. I haven't given in and donned knee-socks on the 40-degree days just yet, but I'm pretty happy to leave my heavy coats in the car, or to go without gloves or a scarf. Mostly I'm sick, sick, sick of everything I own that's appropriate for cooler temperatures. The urge to toss out my entire closet and start over is getting really bad, and coming up with an outfit I like enough to bother coercing someone into helping me photograph is something of a job these days.
That said, it's always funny at the end of a season to look back on what I didn't wear. I was pretty sure this coat would make an appearance several times when it came to going out in some manner of fancy outfit, but I was so grumpy about the cold this winter that I sort of pulled back on the getting dressed up to go out! I've also been a bit more cautious this year about what coats I take with me--ever since my favorite coat got pinched at an event, I've been overprotective of the rest of them, like some kind of coat-hoarding mother-hen.
In the interest of revisiting things I already own I've also been re-discovering my pin collection. I've finally amassed a strange menagerie of animals as well as a few bows and flowers in numbers great enough that they start fitting together within different themes, so I think it's time to pair them up together and see what kind of strange lapel-tableaus I can come up with.
Thank you to my lovely coworker Eden for snapping these for me!

I love your brooches so much! I know exactly what you mean about being sick to death of winter and winter clothing. I'm so tired of piling on the same sweaters (frequently I have to wear more than one because I'm an 80-year-old lady and always cold). I can't believe someone stole your coat though! Well, karma and all that, I guess...
ReplyDeleteYour coat is gorgeous! Sorry to hear about your favorite one!

That coat is lovely! I'd be protective of it too! I love all your pins-- I always wear a little dachshund pin on my coat :)
ReplyDeleteSomeone took my coat this weekend and I ended up with theirs with their keys...lets just say I drunkenly threatened many many awful things until I got my coat back. So now, like you, I am so overprotective. Even at work, just locking it in a closet where no one can even see it and think about taking it.
ReplyDeleteYour coat and brooches are super pretty too. I would come up with many excellent/terrifying threats for you to use if something ever happened to it.
PS-March sucks for getting dressed. Boo.
That coat is beautiful! I love brocade-type patterns, and the material looks sturdy enough that the coat could still provide a good amount of warmth in the intermediate weather of March. The pins were such a cute touch, too!
ReplyDeleteI love your coat, it's beautiful!

(Lights. CHRISTINA enters from stage right—perhaps skipping—clutching a rolled up paper tube in both hands. She stops in front of KATER's desk, neat and tidy save for the beautiful cream-and-tan colored tapestry coat draped over the back of the chair. CHRISTINA unfurls the paper tube to reveal a poster depicting and impossibly cute orange-and-white kitten clinging perilously to a tree branch by a single paw. Above the cat, in thick bubbly script, are the words "Hang in there, baby!". CHRISTINA helps herself to some thumbtacks from a little dish on the desk, and tacks the poster up on KATER's corkboard, covering up all of the notes, schedules and stray pages from Lula and Vogue editorials. CHRISTINA steps back to admire her handiwork while removing the excess skirt material that has erstwhile wedged in her butt-crack. She spots the coat on the chair and slips it on, dancing coyly in front of the poster as if it were a mirror. She bundles it up tighter and begins to skip off stage right.)
ReplyDeleteCHRISTINA: fuck yes!

Love the coat, it looks so warm!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great coat!
ReplyDeletewhat a coat! you look top to toe gorgeous! LOVE that fox pin, too!
ReplyDeleteI love your coat! It's a bit upholstery-like (and I promise I mean that in the very best way)! I feel like I've yet to find my perfect winter coat. I kind of want one of those princess ones from the 40's, but maybe those are too fussy for me to actually wear on a regular basis. I'd be too worried about ruining one or leaving it somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness winter's nearly over, because I honestly have no idea how to dress!
Ah! That coat is beautiful!

Your hair got so long :)) You look lovely. And I completely understand the closet tantrums, especially since all of my winter stuff are of a boring, dark color, which makes me even more depressed about winter!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous is your coat?! Love it. The brooches are cute too- I feel inspired to find some of my own.

That. COAT. It is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough I'm having similar clothing issues but from the opposite end - summer is turning into autumn here and I never know whether to wear warm-weather clothes or long sleeves and I just want it to be one thing or the other, I'm sick of all this inbetween!
Such lovely brooches! That coat is a masterpiece... Not to mention the lace dress that throws me back to the 1960's. Overall, you look gorgeous: flawless porcelain doll skin and beautiful ebony hair. Hugs and kisses xx
