One Warm Day.

It's not here yet, spring, and even the chipperest people around these parts are dragging themselves across the pavement, trying desperately to leave coats behind. You can see here that the little piles of snow have melted (which is partly why I went back to this spot for pictures) but every news outlet, tweet, and facebook update is warning that we're going to get more on Friday.



I've been living in this striped dress since I bought it. I remember seeing it in the J. Crew catalog and pining over it (even though I don't really like the zippers on the sides) until finally prancing across the hall in the mall when I saw it hanging on a rack in the front of the store. My grubby little hands were not to be separated from it and it came home with me even though that was weeks and weeks before any appropriate temperatures were going to surface.



And of course, there is my funny trench. I've been looking in every single store I walk by to try and find a classic trench, but have yet to find my trench-mate. The ones I end up liking are always $200 or upwards, which does not fit into my little world's budget!



Meet my little fox friend! He is another Zentall pin that my mother got in a lot with the seahorse gentleman, and I love having him about the world with me. He's very fantastic.

The Regular.

Most of the time when I bother to get pictures to post here it's on days when I don't have to go to work, or when the weather is particularly good, or if I'm going somewhere that will have good spots for it. These days, anyway. When I first started posting here, it was a little different, but I'm much happier over the past year or so with the way pictures and posts come out.

But if I were telling the honest-to-goodness cross-my-heart truth, I don't dress like this every day. It's not too different on most days, but a lot of the time I'm in something a little less fussy.





Something a little more like this. First, I have to swear, they're not leggings! I'm not falling victim to the Leggings As Pants event that has swept the nation (I'm also aware that I might just be telling myself that). They are in fact pants, something more akin to a riding pant than to a proper jean or chino, much thicker than leggings. I've worn them a lot in the winter with my wellies or other boots, to make climbing the iced-over snow banks on my way to work a little bit warmer and easier.

And of course, whenever I am in doubt, I wear stripes. It was also definitely not warm enough to warrant those shoes, but I'm so sick down to my very bones of wearing socks.





I also have to admit, no matter what kind of rants I might end up with, these glasses aren't mine. BUT, before the groans start, they soon will be mine! I do need glasses to see--distance anyway, especially for movies and driving--and after watching everyone else in the blog world get their hands on some Warby Parker glasses, I decided to take advantage of their free home-try-on option. I'm wearing the Webb ones here, which are my favorite I think, that I ordered, to see how I like them. They're nice and wide (my current glasses are a bit narrow and so it's limiting in the space I can look through), although between the bangs and the lipstick I do feel a little bit (shall we say the word?) hipster-ish. Which, even using that phrase annoys me--what on earth does it even mean? And I don't want to be that person who tries so hard not to be like something. But sometimes, despite all efforts, I worry what people will say or think, even to themselves.



In the end though, I just want to wear lipstick and stripes and ponytails, and the rest can just be silence.

Sweater Tugging Days.

After my last post it snowed a whole lot. That was really fun, except for the part where I totally hated it. Today it was nice though, and I once again had the urge to wear something nice, brush my hair, leave the house.







I've been meaning to wear and post this blouse for over a year! My boyfriend ordered it for me from Francesca's shop last Valentine's day, and it's taken me almost that long to wear it! I was in love with the bunnies from the moment I laid eyes on it, but the sleeves were a bit too snug for my arms. My mother, infinitely resourceful and talented, sewed bits of lace into the underside of the sleeves so I had some extra room and did not loose circulation in my arms.

The skirt is new, something I picked up because I thought it looked like the sort of thing I was always looking for but never had the eye to pick it out. Someone cut one of the faux-pockets open and added a lining so it sticks out a bit on the side, but I like having at least one pocket.





My hair is also, as you might notice, a slightly different shade than usual. A little over a week ago, almost two weeks now, I decided to follow the itch I had and try for an Auburn color. It's one of those things, like bangs, which if you've always kind of wanted you're going to always kind of want until you just do it and get it out of your system.

Initially, it came out very, very bright, and I woke up the next day in the midst of a Jo March moment, clutching at the sides of my head and convinced that it was purple. I feverishly washed my head, dropping the lightly pink soap on the white tub to see if it was still eeking out into the lather, until I was less panicked.

It's not permenant, so it's going to keep fading, but right now it's at a spot where I like it. I'll go back to brunette in April, when I have my next appointment, because nothing else really feels quite right. For the time being though, it's a nice little change to boost myself into warm weather.
