In trying to think about this post, I keep rolling off the edge into about eight different other places (that sounds much more ominous than I mean it to. Really, it's just that there are several things I want to write about). For the past few months I've been sort of struggling with exactly what I think my personal style is. I think at some point someone asked me and where I used to know that if a doll would wear it, I probably would, suddenly that didn't seem so true anymore.

I didn't used to worry about it. For the past few years I've been of the philosophy that you should just buy what you want (I don't mean go nuts, but rather, don't talk yourself out of something because you don't think it fits with your style) and eventually it will all fit together somehow. But now I've been thinking about it more. I suppose I'm starting to find a kind of uniform that's not, but a general kind of outfit that I'm finding more ways to repeat. I'm getting back into unapologetically wearing the same thing, like I did when I was younger.
Hence, this chambray shirt (I keep collecting them!) and my favorite scarf of all time, every day.

I really like your sense of style. It's refreshing, and always elegant in a classic way. Even when you're wearing something as casual as shorts and a button-down. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Amy. You have a casual elegance to your style, that doesn't seem over thought. It's classic, but whimsical.
ReplyDeleteI find I run into confusion dressing when I am confused about other things in my life - it all connects! I love your chambray shirts... always happy to see how you have styled them :)
ReplyDeletei tend to have a uniform too - stripes, stripes aaaaand more stripes. i find that my outfits these days are a variation on a theme and i'm ok with that.
ReplyDeletei think as you get older you become more comfortable with yourself and your style and you realize what works best on you. if that's chambray for you, then screw 'em! its a great basic that goes with everything and will last through the trends and years.
you always look adorable and completely put together and i think chambray is a perfect signature piece for you :)
I have trouble putting a label on my style as well. I feel like it's always constantly changing. Your style always seems classic and put together. Even in a button up and shorts you still look completely lady like.

What a lovely outfit. I understand about re-figuring out personal style. I recently went through a similar sorting through what I really liked and wanted to wear. It can be a fun thing.

wow your skin is amazing! love how striking the red lips are with your dark hair too:)
ReplyDeleteLove the red lips. I'm such a wuss, I'm not sure I could pull them off as well as you do!
ReplyDeletei love your colouring so much. perfect with the red lips.
ReplyDeleteand i kinda feel the same. but i think if you think too much about that kinda thing, you end up overthinking what you wear and end up looking too constructed, or fake or something. i dunno. don't worry, though!

I have the same feelings! It is hard to define your style at times. I feel as if I am in a transition fashion phase right now and it is really difficult to push through. But, you always inspire me! I love how lady like and fresh you always look.
ReplyDeleteThat headscarf is AMAZING. Also, you're totally owning that red lipstick - love it w/pale skin

I know how you feel, lately I'm all over the place, I've been really liking flashy comtempory clothing with a it of pop like glitter, really loud and tacky, stuff I would normally shun, and then I've been also getting into 1950's casual, rolled up jeans with sleevless shirts, I'm just all over the place!
ReplyDeleteI always love what you wear (need to learn how to tie a head scarf!) and don't think there's anything wrong with having a uniform! I guess it's all our styles settling down to one or two types. :D

you look beautiful, i love this, the right hint of boyishness mixed with the feminine, you could climb trees in this outfit! i love how you've tied your scarf!
ReplyDeleteI struggle to define my personal style too... but I never would have thought you did... I can always see how everything you wear (at least on the blog) seems to fit into a theme, a dressy but casual and simple theme.
ReplyDeletei know just what you mean. i've been going through the same thing all year - my style used to be alice-in-wonderland, and now i think it's alice-in-wonderland-grows-up-and-befriends-virginia-woolf. ish. sometimes.
ReplyDeleteanyhow, you look really beautiful so this new uniform thing is definitely working for you!
I absolutely agree re: Tumblr and Norway (though I feel that the famine in Somalia is necessarily worse, I don't think you can objectively compare the value of human lives). Sometimes I wonder about Tumblr girls and whether they spend all day lolling about in beds naked. Honestly!
ReplyDeleteBut that yellow bow at the back of your dress is such a nice touch. I love pops of colour!

If I could get away with it, I'd probably only wear 2-3 outfits a week... one day just doesn't seem long enough to enjoy a flouncy skirt or a pretty vest. Why can't we stretch the enjoyment?
ReplyDeletei hear you. but it seems you're very versatile, so that's a good thing. or maybe not, if you want to save money and the planet? haha... i guess i speak for myself only. i need to stop collecting uniforms.
ReplyDeleteI can really relate to what you mean, I think everyone goes through different style transitions. I'm sure in another 6 months your uniform will be very different yet again, always good to be versatile x
ReplyDeleteyou look so like a porcelain doll here! and i've always thought your style to be whimsical and wonderful:)
