Dear Anthropologie,
Yeah. You win. For a while there it was touch-and-go. I loved you because I always had, despite the fact that so does everyone else, because you had clever things to bait me like green vintage typewriters in your stores and nice packaging and a general sense of whimsy that beckons my silly little heart. But between the last catalog, with the haircut I can never really pull off, and this little bit of circus imagery, you've locked me in.
Wistfully yours,
Kater.
p.s. If you feel so inclined, it would be nice if I could afford your bits and bobs without feeling guilty for handing over my pennies.
Couldn't have said (or written) it better myself! :)

If there was an Anthropologie closer than 2000 km away I would surely be bankrupt.
ReplyDeleteagree with emily! thank goodness there are none here.
ReplyDeletelove your picture :)
ReplyDeleteoh i know how you feel :)

ReplyDeleteI'm positive Anthropologie would break me and I'd feel just as guilty, if I only had my own pennies to hand over.
ReplyDeleteAGREED! Well put! It's corporate; it's lovely; it's inspired by the most gorgeous vintage pieces that are rare but 1/3 the price in real life; their clothes fall apart; their clothes are the stuff of dreams; their decor inspires endlessly; their decor disheartens underpaid teacher-gals like me....
ReplyDeleteA love in turmoil.
Thank you for your Anthro-like suggestive imagery--I'm going to make myself a pot of tea and indulge in a sweet treat because of your pretty picture.
xoxo,
Gina
I know! I wish I could afford their stuff :(
ReplyDeleteLovely picture, by the way. That tea set is adorable :)
I agree!!
ReplyDeleteI love Anthropologie so much!! I'm far too poor to shop there on a regular basis, but I love browsing and gawking at all their pretty dresses and whatnot. :)

I visited my first Anthropologie on my trip to the US last year ... and it was gorgeous. SO expensive, though. So I felt all the pretty fabrics and gazed longingly at all the pretty dresses and left empty-handed. I think it's the kind of store, though, where everything is prettier all together than it is on its own - so if you bought something and took it home, it wouldn't look quite as nice. Sort of like picking a flower - it looks nicer blooming with its friends than it would wilting in a jar. ;)

Oh Anthropologie, you entice me and then laugh at my bank account. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you have a Danish plate! My mom has cupboards full of the very same china that belonged to her grandmother. Isn't so delicately lovely?

Definitely agreed!!

LOL!
ReplyDeleteI second the p.s!
I walk in there and feel guilty for just looking. It's like my wallet gets smaller with me not even having to touch it.
with you 100%. I hope they read your letter and send you pretty, unexpected treasures. :)
ReplyDeleteOooh, your blog is wonderfully whimsical and I will be following from now on!
ReplyDeleteThis Anthropology place sounds very intriguing. Nothing like that here in the Middle of the East…
Ohh I've been on the Anthropologie site and I'm so relieved they don't have one in Australia, if they did I would probably be working just to afford their stuff and still be in debt.
ReplyDeletePs;
that post you did on the fashion in Inglourious Basterds inspired me to have a go at recreating Shossana Dreyfus's look myself :) Like you I obsess over the fashion in my favorite films and then channel my favorite characters outfits!

Ack! I have yet to get that catalog in the mail. *cries* I'll have to go spend some time browsing the digital version today. ;)
ReplyDelete*sigh* I feel the same way about Anthro. Worse yet, I have a gift card I've been hoarding for a trip to my local store. So who knows what trouble my checkbook will get in to... lol!

I understand you and I agree with you and all the bloggers that have posted before... Thank God there's no one near where I live
ReplyDeleteThat last catalog really was amazing! Anthropologie really has a way of selling you the life you want to live.

Gorgeous clothing, housewares, jewelry, soaps, etc...unfortunately, all my Anthro-purchases wind up becoming damaged or torn really quickly, really easily...not too affordable on my limited budget...such a shame b/c if the durability were there, I'd be bankrupt because of them!
ReplyDeletei've always really wanted to buy their furniture
ReplyDeletei would love to be able to afford their stuff too, damn the exchange rate and shipping
ReplyDeleteanthropologie is awesome! i got a tea cup from them (like the one in your header) for christmas and use it all the time!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I just went by the Rockefeller center one yesterday and practically cried over all the things I can't afford in there!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is hard to resist the packages like that. So pretty, so color coordinated. Ahh, it's all just too lovely. It's good to give in sometimes :)

Ack, I know. Anthropologie is totally after my heart. I actually had to give in and buy a necklace on-sale the other day, even thought at 50% off it was still too expensive. They're stuff just basically represents my dream life.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute post.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteHave you heard about the "Avenue Debut Grand Givaway" I just entered and you should too! I can't wait to win the $1000 shopping spree from LVCMag.com I need a new spring wardrobe with all the ideas I get from this blog.
ReplyDeleteSo fantastically said! I can't get enough of all their beautiful things, and I know that given half a chance I'd spend all my pennies, that's so bad!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say, this is my first visit to your blog and I love it!
Have a beautiful week

Anthropologie, oh, how I love it, as well - always a pretty little thing to try on...and put back down, due to its pretty little price.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I recently bought a book from Anthropologie that listed great dessert places in NYC - well, I have been to some of them and they were huge disappointments!

I completely agree! I was so excited the other day because I actually purchased something from that store! It was a mere tea cup but still! I am making progress and I hope to buy an article of clothing one day...
