Stressful Dressings.

The leaves fell off the trees and I lost all interest in getting dressed. My hair is uncooperative, except right before bed, and I am uneasy and nonplussed at most of my wardrobe. I suppose it is because this change in weather (that drab, sad period after there are no leaves and it is cold but snow has yet to grace us with its presence) coincides with terribly busy work schedules and Really Scary School Things (term papers and thesis proposals).

On the other hand, something about the kinds of clothes I so adored a year ago doesn't appeal to me so much these days. I'm cannot lie: I'm way into pants (even though the above picture is evidence of something else) and blouses and slightly uniform-ish, boyfriend-y, bookish things. And, you know, that effortless French thing with the pants and the neat-o jackets and shoes and all that on the women popping up on street-style blogs. It's always kind of scared me because I figured it involved a lot of natural ability to put things that are kind of slouchy but tailored together with a body type that doesn't necessarily border on the curvy, but it's what my inspiration folder is full of these days.

I still want to wear the ruffle blouses, and lord knows I get my grubby little hands on plenty of them, but I also want to wear cuffed jeans or a men's gingham shirt, and perhaps ignore the skirt for a while. I don't know if I can deal with prim these days, even though I still love it.

APC Winter 09

Some days though, like today, I just toss on an old dress and a sweater and call it a day. I need a pair of flat oxfords. I found the perfect ones at Macy's, glorious things they were, so amazing that I could have cried. Then they sold out. They aren't even on the website anymore, and I pity myself. In the meantime I will have to pretend with some Bass penny loafers (once I exchange them for the correct size).

  1. All I know, is you look fabulous, and i LOVE your hair in that photo.

I relate to the need for a pair of flat oxfords. I have been craving this pair, but I am not sure yet they fit my style.

  3. I know what you mean about this time of year, and being quite unimpressed with one's own wardrobe. I'm feeling it hardcore here, and lucky for me (or not so) i'm sick and thus don't have to even think about getting dressed.

  6. I'm also feeling the winter slump - overall I just haven't been happy with my outfit choices lately. Eh, oh well. I'm sure the mojo will return eventually.

I have the Steve Madden Tuxxedos (in Cognac) and I LOVE them. I've been wearing them constantly (make sure you go up a half size - they run pretty small).

  9. I've been looking so hard for a good pair of women's oxfords. All the stores seem to carry are really flat ballet-flat type things, not a real pair of oxfords. :(

  10. Do not fear, you will always look incredibly pretty as you are this phase or that phase. I think this new pant thing can be jolly and enjoyed! There's a whole lot more things you can do in pants, dressies are lovely too - make ya feel all flowy and all. To tell you the truth I see this pant phase as a very positive thing, and it's early and right on for the brutal winter that's comin for us. Cheers to ze pants! Lovely warm things

  14. I've mostly lost interest in getting dressed, too. I still like my clothes for the most part, but I haven't been bothering so much to take the time to make outfits "just right." I've been letting things be little rough around the edges, mostly because of the weather. I definitely like the boyfriend-y bookish style, though :)

  15. Just dress like Garance. She wears lots of men's wear type things, but one or two very feminine things (like shoes) and it works well for her. Also this: http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3676002&camp=affiliate_k108283

  17. I start writing a blog about my life with my eating disorder and my addiction to fashion.
I really need readers, because in my real life I had no listeners. Alone, yes I
was always alone with my thoughts, in those days I didn't care about it. Untill I discovered the blogs and learnt how good it can feel to have readers. Readers, which share the same intress and have the same feelings after a shitty snack attack.

  18. I find that even winter has its charm as regards clothing. I love to dress in layers, so this is my season because it allows me to wear different things at the same time. However I really like your style simple but updated

  26. I like your outfit. I can sympathize with the whole winter thing leaving you out of sorts. I feel unmotivated about dressing up and I feel blah about my wardrobe.
The menswear looks are pretty awesome...I'm looking out for a pair of loafers myself :) - JoAnn
