When the girl returned, some hours later, she carried a tray, with a cup of fragrant tea steaming on it; and a plate piled up with very hot buttered toast, cut thick, very brown on both sides, with the butter running through the holes in great golden drops, like honey from the honeycomb. The smell of that buttered toast simply talked to Toad, and with no uncertain voice; talked of warm kitchens, of breakfasts on bright frosty mornings, of cosy parlour firesides on winter evenings, when one's ramble was over and slippered feet were propped on the fender, of the purring of contented cats, and the twitter of sleepy canaries.

This is going to have very little to do with clothing--but seeing as we have to eat to live in order to wear clothes, it fits in a very broad and stretchy kind of way.
I love breakfast. More specifically I love second breakfast--Hobbit style--or brunch. I have hard time eating first thing in the morning so I usually have a cup of tea and a piece of candy (oops!) first, then real breakfast an hour or so later.

Rose-bouquet tea, summer fruit tart from work, chocolate disks.

Nutella croissant from work, regular old black tea.

Soft-boiled egg, toast soldiers with butter, rose-bouquet tea (I think, I drink it a lot).

French peasant bread (toasted), orange juice, Mariage Freres 'Eros' tea.

Tea of some kind, corn muffins with butter and raspberry jelly.

Waffles made from scratch, breakfast sausage, grapefruit slices, Summertime Blue tea.
I love taking pictures of food, especially breakfast. And something about the late morning meal reminds me of Victorian things, inexplicably, and a memory of eating corn muffins next to the pachysandra one summer at a little table in the midst of The Secret Garden obsession.

Nutella! Only one of the most delicious spreads I have ever eaten. And tea! I wish I drank it more. You have such a lovely presentation it makes me want to try and drink more tea.
ReplyDeleteAh! I love tea! And Nutella!!! My grandmother just gave me some peach tea! Scrumptious, I tell you!:):):)
ReplyDeleteI wish my breakfast could look that fancy! I really need to start drinking more tea, too. :x

ReplyDeletehttp://simplybreakfast.blogspot.com/
lots of yum breakfast ideas!
I LOVE second breakfast! I always have something very like what you have at work. I'd toast a piece of Parmesan and red pepper bread, and have that with some tea. Beautiful pictures! The presentation is so enchanting.
ReplyDeletemmmmmmm... this post is making me hungry :)
ReplyDeleteI love all your crockery!
ReplyDeleteAhhh, best post ever! I <3 food...The Secret Garden...Lord of the Rings...the list goes on.
ReplyDelete:)
Mmmh, so yummy!
ReplyDeletethese pictures are all lovely and are making me quite hungry.
ReplyDeleteI used to loathe breakfast because I thought the menu was too limited, but lately its become one of my favorite extravagances. endless coffee refills, intriguing pancake combinations, a chance to catch up with friends about what really happened after a late night before haha. its become routine in my collegiate ways when we all wake up around 11am on a weekend and want something hearty and sweet, thank god for sunday brunch.
ReplyDeletei can never pick a fairy toast topping. raspberry jam? nutella? peanutbutter (I love how it melts on toast)? or just butter & cinnamon sugar? yum...sometimes simple is the best!
all of these breakfasts look heavenly. great post!
Picture are so romantic and kingly! I love nutella!
ReplyDeleteThis photos are amazing!
ReplyDeleteA lovely, english summer breakfast :)
I love a dippy egg with soldiers!

BILLY AND DOM!
ReplyDeleteOh this post is killing me, I love breakfast foods. And I do second breakfast too! I drink coffee though- I really should try to drink more tea. God knows there's enough of it in the house!
I love breakfast and brunch! I think my favorite thing to have is English muffins smothered in raspberry preserves.
ReplyDeleteHello. Was checking out new blogs and came across yours and I think its really cool. Hey come check out mine if you'd like.
ReplyDeleteYou are a woman after my own heart! Second breakfast and candy in the morning? Yes please.
ReplyDeleteAll that food makes me so hungry for breakfast! My fiance doesn't like breakfast foods, which always bums me out because I grew up in a house that routinely had breakfast for dinner. Waffles are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThe mugs and teacups and table clothes are also lovely in these shots. They couldn't have all been taken in your house, could they?
I love the idea of 2nd breakfast! I wish my breakfasts were as photogenic as yours. I usually just have cereal. And there never seems to be time for tea--ugh.
ReplyDeleteBeing a toast fiend, I am in love with that passage at the top. So good--though I'm starting to feel a bit hungry...
Oh, you're making me hungry! I've already had breakfast, though! But there's room for a second one :D
ReplyDeleteOh my! What lovely photos! If only my breakfast looked so pretty... it's usually a boring bowl of cereal. ;) lol. I'm one of those people that has to eat within 30 minutes of getting up, otherwise I end up cranky. hehe!

For a long time (ever since I began my university study and my morning schedules became infinitely more free than ever before) I've been enjoying what I call "second breakfast", which really amounts to spreading my love of breakfast foods over the day and thus replacing meals (lunch) with another breakfast. It wasn't until I began posting about this on Facebook and Twitter that a number of LOTR fans pointed out to me that I shared this term with my favourite two hobbits of the films.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a big fan of breakfast foods and your post has delighted me with both the title and the gorgeous, appetite stimulating pictures. I often try to take photos of my own breakfasts, but never have they turned out as lovely as yours.
It's lovely to find a kindred breakfast(and tea!)-loving spirit :)
I LOVE and am a HUGE fan of your blog! Hope you can take the time to check out my site!

ReplyDeleteYour second breakfast looks so much more amazing than my first breakfast! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, this looks like a high-in meal at an expensive hotel! These photos are gorgeous... I want waffles now!
ReplyDeletehehe... hobbit style ^_^
gorgeous photos, they're making me hungry!
ReplyDeleteit looks all so delicious! and the dishes are beyond cute!
ReplyDeleteI adore your tea sets and your plates! Goodness, how could one NOT eat food from such beautiful items?!
ReplyDeleteI mourn the fact that I don't eat a proper quaint, "victorian" breakfast. Its something dull for me, like cereal. But i have a love affair with good food, particularly pastries ^^
I like looking at food pictures almost as much as clothes pictures ;) And your breakfasts DO looks so perfect, dreamy, and victorian-esque... nothing at all like mine, really. haha
ReplyDeletemmm, i love soft-boiled eggs. :) everything looks so fancy, i love it.
ReplyDeleteI loved your use of tablecloths and lovely plates with the delicious looking breakfast. Nutella brings back such childhood memories. It is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteEverything was so pretty and delicious looking! :)

OMG man, billy and dom are sooo cute ahaha. So silly. And yea, I think breakfast is the best meal, but I'm more into American breakfast foods than Continental breakfast foods.
ReplyDeletelove the floral tablecloth and cutlery. nice food pictures.
ReplyDeleteI haven't eaten breakfast yet and now I am STARVING! Great post though, breakfast is so elegant.
ReplyDeleteI love this post....I'm a vintage junkie (clothes and "stuff" from the 60s/70s) but these tea cups have me all grinnin' like a fool!
ReplyDeleteMy name is alex, and I just found your blog fairly recently—I really love it! Thanks for sharing all the fun stuff.
Great food pictures. It looks so beautiful when you have pictures of it, rather than when I see it myself.
ReplyDeleteThat actually looks like the best breakfast everr!
ReplyDeleteMmmmmmmm. Nutella. My favorite is to have it with crepes and bananas. Second breakfast is a lovely concept!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so delicious! I love the quote, too. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh yum.
ReplyDeleteI am not much for pastries in the morning, but when my family traveled in France we *loved* having fresh baguettes and croissants every day. Actually, by the end of the trip we got rather jaded.
I am a breakfast cereal girl (hot or cold), but the most important thing is a giant pot of my favorite tea (Jackfruit or Vanilla Honeybush are my current faves.)
Your photos are lovely- all the colours and the light are perfect.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a very sweet blog xxx

Okay, I'm just going to say it now. Everything about this post is amazing. The quote, the food (!), and that video. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of treasuring breakfast, as so many of us either don't have time to make it or forget about it the second we've eaten it!
ReplyDeleteAnd have you read The Hobbit? the book before the LOTR trilogy? i'm sure you have (hence the reference) but that book is all about food and especially Bilbo's breakfasts! Lovely blog :)
Wow, I love this post! I can't believe I haven't read your blog before (its amazing by the way) so I'm adding you straight onto my favourites.
