The Tale of Plaid and Lace.

It's been rainy and lovely. I am trying not to turn this blog into a perpetual comment on the weather, but I can't help it. Today is a bit cooler, and consequently I feel happiest about my outfit, at least since the last time I posted a full one.

I'm really lazy. Most of the time I just prop my camera on the stairs and take a picture, but this is getting to be a huge pain. Tripod, here I come! In any case, this outfit is a lot of things I love. You can't see it, which makes this post stupid, but I got the shirt at Anthropologie three years ago. I remember, because I bought it almost three years ago and have struggled with it ever since. I love it, and I loved it when I saw it--it also came in this gorgeous dusty-blue--and it was full price at 68$. Then, almost six months later, we went back to NYC and there it was! In the same store, sitting there, the last one in my size, waiting. Oh, a moment of bliss! It was also twenty dollars then. It's short in the waist though, so it's always been a bit of a problem. Latley, I've been trying very hard to find a way to wear it that I like, and I believe I've found it. It's a lot of stress over a lacey little t-shirt!

(I liked this sort of accidental shot because I think it's one of those weird pictures where you know exactly what I looked like when I was four.)

Also, I made a thing! Ages ago Emily at Some Girls Wander (and Inside a Black Apple, but I honestly frequent the former for inspiration more often just a bit, so there you go :P) made a post about things to do with vintage doilies and lace. I have a lot of these. I can't leave them behind at thrift stores and estate sales--I need to love them! And while it's really nice to have them filling bowls and things, her post on turning them into a scarf might have been the most genius thing in the universe. So I copied it. I had been meaning to for ages but never got around to it until last night. Eventually I'll add to it, but for now it's a nice little thing to whip up at 1am :D

(I <3 my bee)

Thanks Emily :)!

  1. Soo cute. I love the doily/scarf idea from Emily and it looks lovely on you. And I adore that bee brooch! Oddly enough, I've been looking for the perfect bee necklace for a while.

I also really like that third picture of you. It's a stunning image and I was looking at it thinking "Hey, I really can see what she looked like when she was four!" Cute cute cute.

  3. I love all the lace. I have a lace shirt that I find very difficult to wear, too. Accidental photos are always the best.

  10. Such a gorgeous outfit! I love the idea of a doily scarf--it's so fun and pretty, but not too twee (if you know what I mean). :)

  13. You are so beautiful and vintage looking. You could easily be from many years ago with the eyeliner and the pink cheeks and pale skin. Gorgeous :)

Totally unrelated, but a bunch of friends and I are going go-karting (the fast kind, not the kiddie kind) this Saturday. It's not particularly girly, but I think it will be fun, and wanted to invite you along :)

  14. Now I shall have to try out that doily idea, especially as I am learning to make them myself! Oh the copious amount of antique-colored twine that is in my living room, you'd approve I think :D

Also, hurrah for plaid in spring! Random!: I got the itch to watch The Royal Tenenbaums today, it always reminds me both of you (a much happier Margot) and my older brother (who will in fact be Royal when he is 60, only hopefully not divorced) :D

  30. I love this outfit! And what an ingenious idea... I usually cut up those little crotchet doilies and use them in my journals, but I never would have thought of using them as a scarf. Hmm, I think the next time I stop at the thrift store I may have to find one big enough to try it out... because it just looks so dang cute on you! Also did you get that skirt at Urban Outfitters? Because it truly looks exactly like the one I have.
Alright dear, I hope you are well <3
    Au revoir!

P.S. thanks for your lovely little comment, you are so sweet <3

  31. Cute outfit :) I love these photos hehe and that bee brooch. By the way, where did you get that teapot pendant necklace?! It's adorable! Did you make it yourself or purchase it at a vintage store? :)

  32. Oh geez, thanks everyone! I am internet-blushing!

Kate: I took some this morning, I'll post them in the next day or so :) It's not very long, I just laid them on the floor and arranged them how they seemed balanced and nice, and then sewed them with some ecru thread at the edges :)

Thumbelina: It is actually vintage and thrifted! It has ended up being such a great find, I want to wear it all the time!

Kimvee: It's from a garage sale :) They had a coffee pot one too, I wish I had bought it even though I don't drink coffee! I wear it every day. Etsy has lots of different teapot necklaces and charms too though!
