Yesterday I worked my last shift at my job. It's just a silly retail thing, but I worked there for three years and I really liked it (I worked at Nine West), and the store closed yesterday. I'm quite sad, as now I must not only find another job in a world where every newspaper, TV, radio, and website is screaming about the terribly job situation and economy, but I also now do not have my superior access to shoes! I bought a small fortune (but at a deeply discounted price) of shoes, hosiery, and accessories before the end. I have a lot of shoes. Last night I counted, and I have 86 pairs of shoes that I can see. This does not include shoes in the storage trunk, or downstairs and in other parts of the house. Thus, I have decided that I will not allow myself to purchase any more shoes for an indefinite amount of time. I definitely do not need them.
I should probably do the same with clothes, but I am not going to be unrealistic. I will however, limit my purchases--not just because I'm now unemployed but because I have a lot of clothes and nowhere to put them (I do not, in fact, have a closet).
Most important however, is that none of this serious unemployment and economy and whatnot silly business will get in the way of all kinds of other delightful things!
In lovely news, The Clothes Horse was kind enough to interview me last week! She has been featuring bloggers every week or so with delicious questionnaires! You can read mine here. And check out the previous interviews! I have discovered some great blogs through this feature!

yay, someone else has just as bad as a shoe addiction as me hehe, so sorry about the job loss though. good luck in your search!
ReplyDeletelove that clemence photo, her tights are fantastic
and i adored your clothes horse interview, i love neil gaiman and would totally invite him to my dinner party too :) he lives in Minnesota (where I'm from) so I may just have to stalk him this summer haha just kidding... :)
Oh, I'm sure you'll find a new, wonderful job very soon and I love the picture of Clémece Poésy!
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds corny, but think of unemployment as an opportunity. oh, and i'm jealous of your shoes.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your Q&A session with The Clothes Horse. I used to devour Francesca Lia Block books a few years ago, but haven't read any for a while now. I was always so captivated by her magical writing.
ReplyDeleteThe Nine West in Crossgates (I'm also in the Albany area)? I didn't now it was closing; I would have checked out the sales! (I've done a disgusting amount of shopping lately, but I've justified it by telling myself I'm helping the economy).
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel. I used to work at an AMAZING store that sold loads of designer clothing, sunglasses, shoes, and accessories at deeply discounted prices. The company was sold by the overarching owner - to another - and towards the end I scored a Franco Sarto bag, a (700 dollar) Rudsack trench for 54 dollars, bags, shoes, blouses, and much more to last a life time. The best purchase I made was my Marc Jacobs sunglasses. It felt bad to leave there because I too had worked there for 3 years. It's a bit of an empty feeling, even though you know you personally don't intend to take on retail as a career. Say strong and use workpolis.
ReplyDeletePS: I love Clemence Poesy! Ever since she played Fluer De L. in Harry Potter.
It's a shame about the job but I do know how you feel. My job is on the line at the moment and I'm going to find out if I get to keep it next week. I work for a UK clothes store. I'm sure you will find something eventually though, just be glad you managed to get a hoard of lovely shoes while you were there!
ReplyDelete86.oh my god.:)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen 86 shoes together in a store or somewhere else. you're lucky:)
i loved your interview with the clothes horse!
ReplyDeletealso working at nine west sounds heavenly. i'm so sorry it had to come to an end.
nt worry too much re finding a new job. You are obviously employable with 3 years at the same place, presentable and sweet. And you only need 1 job, not 12 so it will be there. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSo I just discovered you through Clothes Horse's interview. Great blog. I'll be back.
ReplyDeleteWow great! Congratulations on being featured. Sorry about your Nine West job but something will come up soon I'm sure. Love your photo too :)

Oh no! How very sad. Good luck on the job search; I'm starting it in a week. :S
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that you got unemployed, especially from such a lovely store. 86 pairs?! Really I wish I had that many... Well, I hope you get a nice job soon!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on your interview with The Clothes Horse!
I'm very sorry you are out of a job! I hope you find another soon! 86 pairs is quite a lot of shoes! You could wear a different pair of shoes for 86 days and no repeats! Hahah.
ReplyDeleteI think I have maybe 20 pairs...
clemence is so great, her style grunge elegant is so cool
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the job. Love this picture tho : )

It was fun reading your interview and getting to know you a little bit better. I'm sure something good will come out of this, it always does, we've got youth on out side :). I really like the photo you're featured on your post, love her polka-dotted tights.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, 86 pairs is FANTASTIC! I used to have about 35, and then I got rid of all the pairs that hurt my feet, and have a mere 25 left - tragic, yes?
ReplyDeleteYour interview was lovely to read, you'll have to let me borrow Sebastian Flyte when you're done with him - we need to drink champagne and giggle together, possibly for several days.
Also, I was looking at your blog the other, and the boyfriend peered over my shoulder and said you look like Liv Tyler - a very good thing, and very true.
love this picture! xx
ReplyDeleteshoot i am unemployed too, it's rough. have you found a new job yet? :)
ReplyDeletecheers to the lovely clothes horse blog feature :)
ReplyDeleteand many thanks for posting that fierce foto of clemence.
LOVE.
I love the photo choices that appear in your interview, very lovely. And your responses are wonderful. You are so adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh, I used to read her books too...
